From 25 to 28 September 2024, the 3rd Symposium on Tectono-geochemistry Theory and Application was successfully held in Yantai, Shandong. The symposium was organized by the Tectono-geochemistry Committee of the Chinese Geophysical Society and co-organized by Shandong Gold Group, the Institute of Geomechanics of CAGS, the Third Geological Brigade of Shandong Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration, and the Shandong Gold Association. Its core theme was "structural ore-forming system research and concealed deposit prediction".
The conference brought together 208 guests, experts, scholars, graduate students and technicians from 14 universities under the Ministry of Education, 2 institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 3 institutes and 1 survey center of the China Geological Survey under the Ministry of Natural Resources, 1 monitoring center of the China Earthquake Administration, 2 non-ferrous geological survey centers, 5 provincial research (survey) institutes (bureaus), 2 scientific publishing houses, 2 research associations, and 29 large/medium-sized geological exploration and mining-processing enterprises. Academician Mao Jingwen of the Chinese Academy of Engineering sent a video congratulation, noting that structural ore control is key to breakthroughs in strategic mineral exploration.
Eleven keynote reports were arranged. Academicians Deng Jun, Hu Ruizhong and Hou Zengqiang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered main reports on "composite orogeny and composite metallogenic systems", "the metallogenesis of Carlin-type gold deposits in South China" and "Tibet Plateau lead-zinc deposits" respectively, advancing metallogenic-system research to a new level. The conference also set up 9 sub-venues with 84 oral reports (including 49 keynote reports), covering structural ore-control theory, hydrothermal metallogenic systems, ore-forming structural surfaces, metallic mineral exploration, Shandong structural metallogeny, gemstone minerals, oil/gas/coal geothermal resources, engineering geology and geological hazards, and global mineral exploration and investment trends.
Dr. Lyu Guo of Suntrans chaired Sub-venue 9 "Global Mineral Exploration and Investment Trends" and delivered a keynote on global mineral exploration and investment trends. Representatives from Shandong Xinhai Mining Technology & Equipment, Yantai Xinwan Mining, Yantai Jinpeng Mining Machinery and Asia Potash International also shared practical results on innovative mineral-processing technologies, structural-analysis applications, new mineral processing products and technologies, and progress in potash exploration in central Laos.
The conference introduced an exhibitor programme for the first time, with booths set up by the Tectono-geochemistry Committee, Shandong Gold Group, the Third Geological Brigade of the Shandong Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration, the Editorial Office of the Journal of Geomechanics, the Geology Branch of Science Press, Yantai Jinpeng Mining Machinery, Shandong Xinhai Mining Technology & Equipment, and Beijing Suntrans. Eleven outstanding youth presentations were selected after the meeting, with winners from China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Shandong Gold Group, Shandong University of Technology, Central South University and Shandong University of Arts.
