Recently, the six-week Special Training Program for Zijin Mining’s International Talent Pool has successfully concluded. All customized teaching curricula, on-site practical training sessions and phased assessments have been fully delivered. The training has achieved remarkable results, cultivating a cohort of overseas reserve backbones equipped with professional English proficiency for the enterprise and delivering high-quality talent development outcomes.
Addressing the prevalent industry pain point of domestic mining talents — who “master technical know-how yet lack familiarity with international rules, and possess hands-on operational skills but are not adept at foreign-related communication” — Dr. Lü Guo from Suntrans served as the core keynote lecturer of mining professional English for this training program. Drawing on more than two decades of profound experience in geological and mining research, overseas project delivery, and industry English teaching and research, Dr. Lü Guo customized a dedicated mining English curriculum well-aligned with the full range of scenarios at overseas mines. Tailored to Zijin Mining’s global strategic layout and job performance criteria for overseas positions, this curriculum features strong practical applicability.
Breaking away from generalized contents of general English courses, the program focuses intensively on core work scenarios including overseas geological exploration, international mineral resource review, operation and maintenance of overseas mines, cross-border business negotiations and foreign-related compliance liaison, precisely catering to the practical demands of frontline positions.

During teaching, core professional terminology covering geology, mining, mineral processing, environmental protection and compliance was systematically unpacked. Real-world working dialogues such as overseas technical briefings, presentations for international mining reports, communication with local communities and cross-border equipment procurement were highly reproduced. Fine-grained discrimination and correction were conducted for frequently encountered confusing and ambiguous terms in JORC, NI 43‑101 standard mining reports and cross-border investment and financing contracts.
Through systematic special training, participants’ comprehensive English competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing was improved in an all-round manner, enabling them to apply what they have learned and promote practice through learning. This exclusive training empowered 30 young backbones from Zijin Mining’s geology, mining and technical lines. Fully benchmarked against the Group’s overseas business development requirements, the course helps participants quickly adapt to language communication tasks across the whole workflow of overseas projects after training completion.
To build a high-standard international classroom, this intensive training assembled a top-tier interdisciplinary faculty team. All lecturers boast geological expertise and hands-on experience in cross-border mining services, with an in-depth understanding of the weak points of domestic mining professionals in English learning. Meanwhile, the program invites professional foreign language teachers from the University of International Business and Economics, together with native-speaking foreign instructors, to deliver joint lectures. This arrangement balances industrial professionalism, systematic domestic teaching methodology and authentic native oral expression.
Complementing one another’s strengths, the multi-party teaching team adopts a progressive tiered teaching model that integrates theories with scenario-based drills. It fundamentally ensures that the curriculum is professional, rigorous, standardized and consistent, conforming to the common communication standards of the global mining industry, and laying a solid professional teaching foundation for the entire talent training program.
Throughout the six-week intensive training, a diligent and motivated learning atmosphere prevailed, fully demonstrating the fine demeanor of Zijin Mining’s young backbones marked by self-discipline, self-improvement and a thirst for continuous progress. All participants highly valued this special upskilling opportunity, voluntarily raised their learning requirements and delved deep into studies, creating an inspiring learning environment. At 7:30 every morning, participants gathered punctually for collective morning reading of mining English. They regularly recited authentic English industry texts, memorized core professional terminology and consolidated their basic language skills, achieving steady progress through day-to-day accumulation.
During the training, two themed English corners were held each week. Centered on key practical topics including overseas mine safety management, international mineral rights negotiations, foreign-related labor administration, ESG compliance review and local community operation & maintenance, these sessions featured immersive all-English interactions. They built an efficient platform for oral practice, helping participants break through speaking bottlenecks such as “fear of speaking, inadequate expression and poor communication skills”. Meanwhile, the curriculum was supplemented with scenario-based simulation training, periodic targeted assessments and presentation drills for overseas scenarios. A complete teaching loop of “lecture and learning — scenario practice — assessment and review — gap filling” was established to boost learning via practice and reinforce knowledge through examinations, precisely making up for participants’ capability gaps.
Throughout the training program, all participants stayed fully focused, studied diligently, reflected actively, engaged in discussions and supported one another to make joint progress. They spared no effort to tackle key and difficult points in mining professional English learning, demonstrating strong learning capacity and professional ethics.
The 30 young backbones participating in this training form the core reserve talent echelon for Zijin Mining to advance its global strategic layout. Most participants will be posted successively to frontline overseas mines and exploration projects across multiple countries upon completion of the program. They will undertake core duties including overseas technical management, liaison for international standard reviews, cross-border business negotiations and foreign-related compliance operations. They constitute the backbone for the company to expand its global mineral resource footprint, consolidate its overseas industrial layout and ensure the stable operation of overseas projects, and serve as the core talent support for Zijin Mining’s internationalized, high-quality development.
