Dr. Lü Guo, founder of Beijing Suntrans Language Translation Co., Ltd., took part in the reception and research program of a visiting delegation from Lanzhou University from August 13 to 15. The delegation was led by Lu Xiaobing, Party Secretary, and Fang Yan, Deputy Party Secretary of the school, together with Chang Tao, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Dean of the School of Management. As a benchmark enterprise deeply engaged in university–enterprise cooperation, Suntrans has become an internship base for many universities. Dr. Lü Guo also serves as an external supervisor for MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting) programs at a number of universities — including China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), Lanzhou University, North China Electric Power University, Northwest Normal University, Changchun University, West Anhui University, Liaoning Normal University, and Wuchang University of Technology in Hubei — and is invited to provide graduate-level teaching guidance for other partner universities, forming a dual-drive advantage of "enterprise practice + university education." On this basis, the two sides held in-depth discussions on key areas such as the university–enterprise collaboration mechanism, talent cultivation pathways, and the alignment of internships and employment, and defined the focal points of their cooperation.
This exchange is not only an important opportunity for complementing the resources of universities and enterprises, but also a pragmatic step toward building the industry's talent ecosystem. Suntrans sincerely welcomes recent graduates and master's students from all universities to come for internships, achieving two-way empowerment of personal capability and enterprise development through immersive, hands-on participation in real translation projects.
The Lanzhou University delegation came to Beijing for the special "Visiting Enterprises to Expand Employment Opportunities" program, aiming to deepen alumni connections, pool alumni strength, and precisely match enterprise needs with students' internship and employment aspirations as well as their professional orientations. As one of the alumni-run enterprises of Lanzhou University, Suntrans responded actively and fully supported the research work. Dr. Lü Guo gave the visiting leaders a detailed introduction to Suntrans's development history, business layout, and industry trends — from professional translation services in mining & energy, international trade and other fields, to the expansion into composite "translation + consulting" services — presenting a full picture of the company's core competitiveness and development potential in the language services industry.
During the meeting, the two sides focused on talent cultivation and internship/employment cooperation. The Lanzhou University leaders introduced the university's talent cultivation system for relevant majors and the students' internship and employment needs, while Suntrans, drawing on the translation industry's demand for versatile professionals, proposed a "theory + practice" internship training approach: through setting up internship positions, holding industry lectures, and jointly developing practical courses, students can familiarize themselves with industry norms ahead of time and accumulate hands-on experience, laying a solid foundation for their future careers. The two sides also reached a preliminary consensus on establishing a long-term university–enterprise cooperation mechanism, hoping to take this visit as an opportunity to further integrate university and enterprise resources, achieve precise alignment between talent cultivation and enterprise needs, and help improve the employment quality of graduates.
The visit of the Lanzhou University delegation has not only built a solid bridge of communication between the university and the enterprise, but also created new opportunities for Suntrans to attract high-quality talent and deepen industry–academia–research cooperation. Suntrans will continue to leverage its industry resource advantages, actively promote the implementation of cooperation with universities, and contribute to cultivating more professional language service talents that meet industry needs.
About the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Lanzhou University
The history of the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures of Lanzhou University dates back to the founding of National Lanzhou University in 1946, when the Faculty of Arts comprised five departments including English and Russian. After the national reorganization of colleges and departments in 1952, the Russian and English departments were merged into other institutions, leaving only the Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Office (called the Russian Teaching and Research Office from 1952 to 1956). The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures was founded in 1970; in 1999 it merged with the College English Teaching Division to form the School of Foreign Languages; and in 2004 the Foreign Languages Teaching Division of the former Lanzhou Medical College was incorporated, forming the school's present scale.
The school currently has 139 faculty and staff members, including 123 full-time teachers (19 professors and 32 associate professors) and 16 administrative staff, and additionally employs 20 foreign language teachers and 1 foreign expert; it trains more than 900 undergraduates and master's students annually.
In terms of disciplines and programs, the school offers five undergraduate programs — English, Russian, Japanese, German, and French — and hosts four research institutes (Foreign Literature, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Country and Area Studies, and Translation), as well as teaching units such as the Public Foreign Languages Teaching Center and the MTI Teaching Center.
The English Department was founded in 1947 as one of the five original departments of the Faculty of Arts, with Professor Shui Tiantong, a Harvard graduate, serving as its first chair. The English program began enrolling master's students in 1979, was among the first institutions authorized to confer the master's degree in English Language and Literature in 1981, obtained authorization for the first-level discipline master's in Foreign Language and Literature and the Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) in 2010, was rated as a Gansu Provincial Key Discipline in Foreign Language and Literature in 2017, and was approved as a Gansu Provincial First-Class Program in 2019 and a National First-Class Program in 2020. The program adopts a course-teaching-team system and an undergraduate tutor system, and, relying on the "3+1" and "3+1+1" joint training programs with Western Sydney University in Australia as well as inter-university exchange programs, provides students with abundant domestic and international learning opportunities.
Dr. Lü Guo, founder of Beijing Suntrans Language Translation Co., Ltd., has always taken the cultivation of language services professionals as his mission and has made continuous efforts in industry–education integration. In addition to Northwest Normal University and Lanzhou University, he has led Suntrans to establish cooperation with many universities across China and jointly build internship and practice bases, deeply integrating the company's industry resources and practical strengths into university talent cultivation systems. Relying on Suntrans's professional translation projects in specialty fields such as mining & energy, international trade, and biopharmaceuticals, these internship bases provide students with full-chain practice opportunities — from hands-on translation workflows and professional terminology application to cross-cultural communication and collaboration — helping students quickly bridge the transition from campus to workplace.
With profound academic attainments and rich industry experience, Dr. Lü Guo not only serves as a master's supervisor at Northwest Normal University and Lanzhou University, but is also invited to supervise master's students at other partner universities. He adheres to a "theory + practice" dual-track mentoring model — guiding students in translation theory research and technical innovation while conducting case-based teaching with real enterprise projects — striving to cultivate versatile language service professionals with both solid professional foundations and practical capabilities.

Once again, Suntrans sincerely welcomes recent graduates and master's students from all universities to come for internships! We provide interns with systematic pre-job training, one-on-one guidance from senior translators, and valuable opportunities to participate in key projects, helping you enhance your professional skills and accumulate industry experience in practice — growing together with Suntrans and contributing hand in hand to the development of the language services industry.
When it comes to recruiting "translation interns," you might instantly picture this: "Oh, isn't that just looking up words, fixing grammar, and nitpicking punctuation in front of a screen all day as an invisible nobody?"
Totally wrong! Today we must set the record straight for this role — it is not an "odd-jobs position" at all, but a training camp for "all-around project operators"! You have to be the "chief director of translation projects," a "translator liaison officer," and occasionally a "layout whiz." It is truly busy, but the skills you gain will fill half a sack!
Don't worry about being thrown into specialized literature right away (though you will occasionally get to show your skills). Your daily work is far more exciting than "checking the dictionary": when handling translation projects, you'll clarify client requirements from requirement sheets and formulate execution plans, arranging translators, proofreaders, and layout work like directing a wedding, monitoring the workflow in real time and reporting issues; when judging a project's specialization and difficulty, you'll precisely match translator resources and coordinate task allocation, acting as a "two-way messenger" between client and translators to optimize quality, delivery time, and cost; you'll also maintain the translator resource database, conduct initial review of translated drafts, assist with layout, and provide feedback on translator performance — deeply involved throughout in the core operations of "coordinating projects, connecting resources, and controlling quality."
The job requirements — "strong sense of responsibility, good communication skills, strong planning and execution" — break down into very practical things: you need a "carry-the-load constitution," able to quickly produce backup plans when clients rush orders or translators run into unexpected situations; you need to "speak clearly," conveying requirements precisely — even if you're shy, you can develop communication skills through frequent coordination; and you need a bit of "attention to detail," keeping a close eye on omissions, terminology, punctuation, and layout issues in translated drafts, truly delivering on "serving clients and controlling project quality."
You may be so busy with rush orders that you barely have time to drink water, and you may feel bewildered the first time you encounter a project in a less commonly taught language — but you will never just "slack off." You'll master the complete 0-to-1 workflow of translation projects, meet translators from all fields, pick up translation techniques along the way, and develop a "stay calm under pressure" mindset — these skills are far more practical than "looking up 100 words." So, if you don't want a "copy-paste" watered-down internship but truly want to learn how projects work and build hard skills, this "translation project housekeeper" position is really worth going for! After all, interns who can coordinate, communicate well, and understand quality control are welcome wherever they go~
